This website provides samples of Hardtek sounds. Hardtek, also known as Hard Techno, is a sub-genre of techno music that first emerged in Sweden around the late 1980s. Hardtek typically uses vocal samples and drums to create a hard electronic sound which is faster than its predecessor techno. Hardtek persists today with many different variations of the genre, including Hardstyle and Hardcore Techno. It's often associated with speedcore, but it's far more complex than just basic techstep techy sounds. Some artists focus on melody while others go towards distorted vocals and screams for creating a disorienting effect over any given track or album. Hardtek samples are commonly used in Dubstep, Drum and Bass, and Industrial genres. Though it is sometimes confused with the American Hardstyle genre. In the mid-1990s it became a popular style amongst American producers in the Midwest and in Pittsburgh in particular. A style that took influences from Detroit and New York Hardcore and combined it with hardcore techno sounds and house vocals, the resulting sound was called "Oi!" The term "Hard Techno" is sometimes used to describe this sound.Hard Techno began to rise in popularity during the early 2000s, when several American artists such as Tunnidge, Phrantic, Apollo Four Forty, DJ Hidden and D-Mob became prominent performers. These artists helped to introduce hard tech sounds to American audiences. Tunnidge, the former producer of Freestylers, specifically claimed that his style was created to break away from the popular UK Funky sound. Hard Techno is usually played by "hard subby" DJs who have a preference for minimal, dirty techno sounds. It is commonly played at raves and underground venues. While the music has gained popularity in Asia, it remains less popular in Europe compared to its American counterpart. The sound of Hardtek and the typical "Oi" sound has been described as: "Acidic and distorted basslines mashed with resounding kicks, screaming vocals and dirty wobbles – a formula that’s become popular ever since its revival in the late ‘90s as a counter-reaction to progressive house."Glitch Hop Doomcore, Speedcore Hard Techno is sometimes played by DJs who are not exclusively fans of hard techno.
